Every day our skin on our faces is exposed to pollution, everyday stresses, little sleep, poor diet, and on occasion too much alcohol from excess partying. If you spend some time every day on your skin care routine it will improve complexion and you will see the change within a month.

We have listed some very basic steps that will help you improve and maintain a beautiful complexion. We have added some simple recipes and extra facial skin care tips that will also be of benefit to you.

Note: It is important to know your facial skin type that is do you have dry, combination or oil this will ensure that you do use the correct products suitable to your skin type.

5 Basic Steps to Clear and Healthy Skin

1. Cleansing

It is important to cleanse your face on a daily basis as this will help you to get rid of any dirt, excess natural oils and any makeup that you have applied through out the day.

2. Toning

Apply a gentle toning lotion after you have cleansed your face as this will help to tighten your pores and will give you a more even skin appearance.

3  Moisturizing

It is important for you to apply moisturizer on your face and neck on a daily basis, for day wear make sure you have a moisturizer that has SPF15+  added to it and for night moisturizer you can use one that will replenish your skin overnight.

4. Steaming

This could be done on a weekly basis as this will help to open the pores on your face so you can do a deep cleansing  on top of this it will increase blood circulation to your face.

5. Face mask

A face mask can be applied twice a week this also aids in removing any dirt and oils that lie deep down in your pores. It also aids in replenishing your skin with essential vitamins and minerals.

Easy Natural Recipes for Facial Care

1. Cleanser for oily skin

Apple cider vinegar makes a great face wash for oily skin as it will quickly remove any grime, dirt or makeup quickly and effectively.

  • 2tbsp organic apple cider vinegar
  • 2tbsp distilled water

Mix the 2 liquid ingredients together and apply with a cotton swab or cotton ball to face then rinse face in mild water and gently pat dry.

2 – Steaming for acne prone and oily skin

You can steam your face with lavender to normalize secretions of the sebaceous glands.

  • 6 drops of pure essential lavender oil
  • 4 litres of hot water

Add hot water to a large bowl then add the 6 drops of essential lavender oil. Drape a towel over your head and when you feel that the water is not to hot, put your face over the bowl of water with the essential oil. Make sure that you have your face about 12 inches away from the water. Steam for approximately 10 minutes, then gently pat your face dry.

3  Face Mask using honey for all skin types

Due to honey being a natural humectant it attracts and maintains moisture in your skin. The anti oxidant properties of honey will also help to protect your skin from UV light. The darker the honey the more potent it is.

  • Organic honey

It is important that you cleanse your face prior to applying any face mask. Slightly heat honey to make it more liquefied. Then apply to your face and neck either with your hands or with a spatula.

Leave the face mask on for approximately 15 minutes. Then you can wash with warm water and then splash with cold water to seal. Pat dry.

If you are not going to use a toner now, then apply a moisturizer to seal in the moisture.

4 Simple Toner

A simple super effective toner is green tea this will assist skin that is tired and any aging skin.

  • 1 tbsp loose green tea
  • ½ cup water

Steep tea in a cup for 10 minutes allow to cool. With a cotton ball apply the green tea to the face. Any left overs could be stored in the fridge and this will make for a cool refreshing summer skin tonic.

5. Natural Face and body scrubs

You can use either combinations as they work great as a an exfoliator and will leave your skin feeling silky soft.

  • 3tbsp White sugar OR salt
  • 1 cup Olive oil OR avocado oil

Mix either white sugar or salt with either olive oil or avocado oil together, gently rub into your skin in a circular motion, this will help to exfoliate any dead skin cells. When doing this on your face make sure that you are gentle with your face as the skin is very delicate.

6 – Moisturizers

Here we have a simple recipe to make your own natural moisturizer one that includes margarine.

a) Glycerin and rose water moisturizer

  • 2 parts rose water
  • 1 part glycerine

Mix these two products together and you will create a lotion to apply of a night time. Like honey glycerine is also a humectant and will attract moisture into your skin.

b) Safflower margarine moisturizer

Natural safflower margarine that you can purchase at a health food store can also be used as a skin moisturizer with very pleasing results.

c) Shea butter

Shea butter is great to use as an all over body moisturizer as it has many amazing health benefits.

d) Other natural oils

Various cooking oils that are cold pressed are also great to use on your face as a moisturizer. These oils are olive oil, peanut oil, sesame oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, macadamia oil, apricot oil etc.These oils are great to use as a massage oil for your face and body. They will leave your skin feeling silky soft and smooth.

Extra tips on skin care

  • When steaming face make sure that you always cleanse first prior to doing the steaming also make sure water is not too hot, for best results do this treatment on a weekly basis.
  • When doing any treatment on your face always include your neck. The skin on your neck ages just as it does the skin on your face.
  • Specific areas of your face are more prone to lace moisture. Therefore it is vital to moisturize these areas i.e. above your upper lip, and atop of your cheekbones.
  • Eating certain foods will help lubricate and heal your skin. Add foods that have vitamin A in them such as carrots, pumpkin, spinach and cantaloupe. Foods that have vitamin E will assist in improving elasticity these include eggs, broccoli and leafy greens.
