Multiple Streams Of Income

September 7, 2008

stewart.jpg Love her or hate her, Martha Stewart is one smart business woman! Many people talk about building multiple streams of income, (including moi), want to see the best example … let’s look at Martha’s business.

Television shows, satellite radio, syndicated news columns, appearances on the Today show, magazines, catalog business and floral business. Being smart and savvy she knows the power of joint ventures and has licensing deals for furniture with Bernhardt, food with Costco, wine with Gallo, homes with KB Homes, paint products with Sears and Lowes, paper craft products with Michael’s and home accessories with KMart and Macy’s!

Now I know most of you don’t aspire to rule the world like Martha does, but you need to learn the concept. I call it “slice and dice”, it’s easier to build a six-figure income with lots of “mini businesses” under the brand of your primary business.

If you want $10k a month in revenues, is it easier to have four “mini businesses” do $2500/month in sales or struggle to have one business do $10k in sales? Look at your own business and decide how you can implement this powerful strategy.

So my hat goes off to Martha Stewart the “Queen of Streams.”

Simple Secrets To Get More Sales

September 5, 2008

There are several different business strategies that you must be constantly thinking about when it comes to your business and keeping your customers happy. The most important concept to focus on when it comes to what product or service your business offers is what are your customers looking for and are you giving them what they want?  Another key concept is to provide your clients with a complete solution for their perceived problem.

Many women that I coach are providing products or services that they want their clients to have or what they perceive to be what their clients need, they’re not necessarily providing what their clients want.  Most people buy based on emotion and justify with logic, this is why it is necessary to do a psychological profile of your perfect client, this profile enables you to identify your client’s ”hot buttons”.  Once you know your client’s “hot buttons” you will know exactly which products or services to provide your client and you will never have to “sell” again.

What is your product or service? Do you have more than one product or service? Another key to building a successful business is to set up a plan so you constantly have multiple streams of income coming in. Your business will be much more successful if you have more than one product or service to offer your clients and customers. Your customers all have different wants and needs–Are you living up to their demands? Or are you giving them what you think they want?
Here’s an example:
You’re a personal trainer and you charge $50 per hour for one on one personal training sessions.
  • What if I can’t afford $50 per hour?
  • What do you have to offer me?
In this example you were providing one to one training because you think that your clients need this service, however while they may need this service they may have reasons why one one to one training does not provide a solution for them.  There are many ways to rectify this problem. Perhaps you can have a DVD that is within their budget and they can workout at home, they may not have the time to meet with you for one to one training or they may not be able to afford your hourly rate. You can also offer group classes such as a Bikini Bootcamp at an affordable group rate, this is for a client that likes to socialize and prefers to workout in a group environment. You may also consider offering nutritional counseling because after all, your clients want to lose weight, if you only provide the exercise component will your client achieve the results she wants? Another great option is to offer a specialized program for women that are trying to lose weight after having children or for people that have back problems. Remember, you are providing products and services your client’s want and in reality there is no perfect solution for everyone, implementing this strategy will also result in more sales.
Another example is perhaps you own a boutique. Are you selling handbags, shoes, jewelry and hair accessories or just clothes? Is your sales staff trained to help the customer by helping them choose an outfit with matching shoes, jewelry, and a hand bag? What your customer needs is a complete, pulled together look. Do you offer personal shopper services? How about offering a service where you help women identify their “signature style” and help them choose outfits from your boutique.
In both examples, it is shown that there are many ways that you can add additional revenue streams to your business. The more products and services you offer, the more sales you’ll have!
Get creative and think about what you can do to better serve your clients and customers.  And remember that in order to build a solid business foundation you must do a psychological profile of your target market so you’re providing the products and services your clients want to purchase.  Your business is all about them and not about you.

Show Me The Money

September 3, 2008

rich woman Can you show me the money?

This is a favorite question I like to ask women business owners about their business. However, most of them can’t tell me that their revenue model or financial forecast is.

I know that many women like to think that they are in business to save mankind. Some may feel as if they are in it to spread their good knowledge and humanitarianism, but why would anybody start their own business if they didn’t want to make money? These same people are also the ones not forming nonprofit organizations and always complaining about debt and bills.

While it’s great to have a laundry list of “other” reasons as to why you’ve decided to start your own business, what good does that do if you’re struggling financially? What are the chances your business will survive long if you aren’t making money?

So lets take this time to talk a little about money.

Your revenue model explains exactly “how” you make money. How much you will charge for a product or for a service and how much it costs you to product the product or service.

Your financial forecast is next and this is where the fun part comes in. You get to decide how much money you’re going to make! Predict what you would like your sales to be for the next month, then put a marketing plan into effect making your sales goals a reality.

That’s all there is to it! It’s a very simplified version, but women just starting their own businesses can learn a great deal just by making a few financial strategic plans, which simplify your finances in a nutshell and make it so you have an idea of where you will be financially in just a few, short months.

Grab your calculators, ladies, and get to work. Figure out your revenue model and then your financial forecast. In very little time you just may see those numbers hit six figures!
